William D. Wood, 87, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away on November 12, 2021, at home with his wife by his side. He was the husband of Linda (Bradbury) Wood for 24 years.
He was the husband of the late Sandra M. (Freda) Wood, who passed away in 1995 after 30 years of marriage.
Born in Milford, DE, he was the son of the late C. Edgar and Ruth E. (Draper) Wood.
After serving in the Air Force, he worked for General Electric from 1964 until 1970 as an electrical engineer. He went on to work for 32 years for the U.S. Government in the Department of Transportation at the Volpe Center, Cambridge, MA, retiring in 2002.
Besides his wife Linda, he leaves his daughter Christina M. Wood Leone and her husband Matthew of Rockville Centre, NY and his son William "Chip" Wood II and his wife Laura of Salem, NH.
He was the grandfather of John Leone, Matthew Leone, Sophia Wood and Kaitlin Wood.
William is also survived by his stepchildren Jeffrey Stewart and his wife Maureen of Uxbridge, MA and Victoria Stewart of Portsmouth, RI, and grandchildren, Jarred Stewart,
Cameron Stewart, Braden Stewart, Samantha Esper, Stewart "Fox" Esper and Sydney Esper.
He also leaves his twin brother Davis H. Wood of Milford, DE and his nephews Bruce Wood and Douglas Wood and their families.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1:00 PM in the Portsmouth United Methodist Church 2732 East Main Road in Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
