Newport, RI - William E. ?Taxi? Conley, 80, of Village House Newport, formerly of Edgar Court, Newport, RI, died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Anna M. Coca Conley. Born in Providence, RI on April 3, 1923, he was the son of the late William C. and Rosella Sullervan Conley. Mr. Conley was a graduate of St. Rafiel Academy, after his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II in the 3rd Armored Division going from the landing in Normandy and fighting all through Europe with General George Patton. After the war he began a 30 year career with the United States Postal Service, working the the Newport and Middletown offices, before retiring in 1978. Mr. Conley was a member of St. Marys Church, the Letter Carrier Union and a former member of the VFW. While working at the Post Office he worked part time for Cozy Cab and Limousine and was a driver for John F. Kennedys wedding. Mr. Conley enjoyed fishing, ice hockey and travel with his wife, you could get him to drive anywhere. Two sons Michael J. Conley and William E. Conley both of Middletown, RI, his daughters Rosella A. Nappi of Warren, RI and Patricia Vorro of Middletown, RI ; his stepbrother Anthony P. Coca of Middletown, RI, and seven grandchildren survive him.He was the brother of the late Donald S. Conley. His funeral will be held on Friday, February 27, 2004, at 8:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.
