William F. Hatzberger

William Francis Hatzberger, Jr., 87, of Portsmouth died Monday, November 5, 2012, at Newport Hospital of Newport, RI. He was the husband of Ann Louise Hannafin.Born on March 12, 1925 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late William Francis and Josephine (Casey) Hatzberger. Mr. Hatzberger served in the United States Navy during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He worked at NUSC for 10 years. He was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church. William was a member of the Middletown VFW Post #4487, and the Portsmouth Senior Center. Mr. Hatzberger was an avid reader, enjoyed rug hooking, gardening and playing bingo. He and his wife, Ann, were active with the Portsmouth Senior Center and loved traveling and cruising.Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his children, Patricia A. Duponte of Middletown, RI, William Francis Hatzberger III of Brooklyn, CT, James Hatzberger of Warwick, RI, Michael Hatzberger of Tiverton, RI, Karen Toppa of Middletown, RI, Mark Hatzberger of Portsmouth, RI, and Maureen Arruda of Portsmouth, RI, her sisters, Jean Cannady of Harrison, AK, Betty Clancy of Billerica, MA, and Kay Eslick of Muskegan, MI, fifteen grandchildren and ten and a half great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Nordlie. Calling hours will be held on, Tuesday, November 6, 2012, from 5-8pm, in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at 9:00am, from Connors Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown.
