William Gardner Ross

- William Gardner Ross, 89, formerly of 5 Smith Avenue, Newport, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at the home of his daughter, 6001 Woodberry Road, Durham, NC. He was the husband of Elizabeth ?Bessie? Gray Ross of Durham. Born in Providence, RI on June 19, 1913, he was the son of the late John and Jessie Gordon Ross. Mr. and Mrs. Ross moved to Durham in February of 2002.Mr. Ross had worked as a painter for the Newport Housing Authority before retiring in 1978. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII. Besides his wife of 57 years he is survived by two daughters Carol Ann Williams of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Sally Ross Cook of Durham, NC, five grandchildren and one great Grandson.He was the brother of the late John ?Jack? Ross, Christy Ann Kerr Oliver, Catherine Jane Braman and Georgie Mary Sonneborn. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 2:00PM in the Island Annex Cemetery in Newport.
