William H. Dugan

Portsmouth, RI - William Bill H. Dugan Jr., 86, of Village House Nursing Home, formerly of 2368 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, and Ward Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Village House Nursing Home, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Lynne A. Dugan. Born in Marblehead, MA on June 21, 1921, he was the son of the late William H. and Mary DeManche Dugan.Mr. Dugan attended Pennsylvania State University. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was Vice President of Marketing for Maryland Coal and Coke in Richmond, VA and New Era Resources in Lexington, KY for 17 years, retiring in 1980. He was secretary of the Portsmouth Lions Club from 1983-1985. He is survived by his daughter Deborah L. Merritt of Middletown, RI. A gathering will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, from 5:00 to 7:30pm, in the LaForge Casino, Bellevue Avenue, Newport.Memorial donations may be made to Aquidneck Land Trust, the Merritt Neighborhood Fund, 790 Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842.
