Portsmouth, RI - William Harrison Brown, 89, of 102 Greenfield Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Massapequa Park, NY, died Friday, January 7, 2011, at home.He was the husband for 68 years of Angelina Gondoli Brown. Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Alfred C. and Isabel Dryden Brown.Mr. Brown was the founder of the Massapequa Mustangs youth football league in Massapequa, NY in 1958. Mr. Brown worked for the town of Oyster Bay for over 30 years, eventually becoming the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for Massapequa, retiring in 1978. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Besides his wife he is survived by his son Alfred W Brown and his wife Linda of Portsmouth, RI, his grandchildren, Jennifer Brown of New York, NY, Meagen Brown of West Hartford, CT, and Taylor Brown of Washington, DC, his great-grandson William M Pickard of West Hartford, CT, and his sisters Noreen Bookman and Loretta Brown of New York, NY. He is preceded in death by his sister Mae WegnerA memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011, from 6-9 pm in the Massapequa Funeral Home, North Chapel, 1050 Park Boulevard, Massapequa, NY.Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice/Visiting Nurses of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871
