Middletown, RI - William Holt Dutra, Sr., 77, of Middletown, RI, formerly of Newport, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. Born in Newport, RI, on August 6, 1930, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Charlotte Holt Dutra.Mr. Dutra had worked as a banker at Bank Newport for 15 years and then went on to serve as the Vice President of the Hudson National Bank in Lynn, MA, for 8 years, retiring in 1974. Mr. Dutra was raised in New York. He was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and attended Hofstra College. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. After his retirement, Mr. Dutra had worked as an independent photographer, taking many scenic vistas around Newport, and having his own dark room at home to develop his film. In recent years he also worked at Newport County Propane. He was a member of the Island Photo Group and had been a long time student of the Newport Art Museum. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and had attended his first game in 1939. He is survived by a daughter Merri Dutra Post, a son William Holt Dutra Jr., two grandchildren Jeremy Gouse and William T. Post, and two great grandchildren Ramiel Gouse and Theodore Post.A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008, 6:30 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be private.
