William John Brand, Jr

Portsmouth, RI - William J. Brand, Jr., 77, of Portsmouth, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at home in Portsmouth. Born in Newburgh, NY on August 9, 1936, he was the son of the late William J. Brand, Sr. and Anna (Hetling) Brand. William joined the United States Navy as a young man and served for 20 years. His Navy service earned him several commendations including the Vietnam Service Medal. After his active duty, he worked a second career for Raytheon in Portsmouth. He was a loyal member of the VFW. He is survived two daughters Colleen Tilkens of St. Nazianz, WI, and Maura Vandehey of Kaukauna, WI, and was preceded in death by his son William J. Brand, III. His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 10:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a burial with military honors at in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Memorial donations may be made to the VFW, 52 Underwood Lane, Middletown, RI 02842.
