Portsmouth, RI - William L. Carberry, Jr., 85, of Portsmouth, RI, died peacefully on August 25, 2010.He was the husband of Marie F. Gaudette Carberry. Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late William and Ella Shea Carberry, Sr. and the brother of the late Daniel Carberry.William was a graduate of Providence College and earned a Masters degree from Bridgewater State College. He began his teaching career in Fall River before coming to the Portsmouth School system as a teacher and subsequently as principal of the Fort Butts School and Portsmouth High School. William served in the US Navy and is a WWII veteran. He also served as commander of the Frank Allen Wilcox Post American Legion. William enjoyed boating, golfing, woodworking, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He also was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, Besides his wife of 60 years, he is survived by seven children, William and Beverly Carberry III, Richard and Kathryn Carberry, Donna and Robert Chaves, James and Mona Carberry, Robert and Patricia Carberry, Patricia and Scott Wentzel and Joanne Carberry. He was the loving grandfather of Christopher, Eric, Jocelyn, Dawn, Shannan, and Samantha Carberry, Elizabeth Carberry Darlington, Corinna and Robert Chaves, Kyle and Erin Wentzel. He was also survived by five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Aubrey and Nichaulus Carberry, James Darlington and Kendal Chaves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 9:00AM in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
