William R. Delehanty

Middletown, RI - William R. Delehanty, 84, of Newport, RI, and Ft. Myers, FL, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011.He was born on February 18, 1927 in Newport, RI to Robert J. and Elizabeth Pullen Delehanty.Bill was a marine during World War II. He loved his country and loved to go fishing with his father. He was a member of Newport Lodge of Elks #104 and a retired union member of Sheet Metal Work Local #17. He leaves his wife Judith, three daughters, Christine Fiander, Holly Peoples and Julie Bartlett.His daughter Sharon Gibbs and sister Betty-Ann preceded him in death.He also leaves five sons, Stephen and Kenneth Delehanty, Michael, Anthony and Mark Barboza, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, brothers Robert and Norman, sister Claire, Barbara and Joyce and numerous nieces and nephews.He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.Interment will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 10:00 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
