William R. Gray

William R. Gray, Jr., 77, of Honeyman Avenue, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 3, 2016 with his family at his side.He was the husband of 48 years to Margaret C. (Robb) Gray.Born in Newport, RI on December 7, 1938, he is the son of the late William R. and Emily (Occaso) Gray.Bill was a 1957 graduate of Rogers High School in Newport and later graduated from Bryant University, now Bryant College, in 1972 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting after serving in the United States Navy. He was an accountant for many years with the Newport Electric Corporation before retiring. Bill was an active member with the Newport Elks, having organized their bocci league as well as playing in their golf league. He was Past President of the Newport Horticultural Society. Bill most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Merily Gray and her companion, Charles Chavis, of East Providence, RI; his son, Allan R. Gray and his wife, Amy E. (Brown) Gray, of Middletown, RI; his sisters, Sandra Norton of Warwick, RI, Janet Joynt and her husband, Ernest, of Tiverton, RI, and Emily Leno and her husband, Robert, of Newport, RI; his grandchildren, Sophia, Charles Jr., Evan and Miles; and many nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 10:00 a.m.-12 noon in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
