William Samuel Francis

William S. Francis, 93, loving family man, of Middletown died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Newport Hospital of Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Gwendolyn M. James.Born on February 11, 1922 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Harry and Abigal (Bailey) Francis. During WWII, Mr. Francis served with the Conservation Corp of Engineers. He was a self-employed painter for various contractors over the years. He also worked as a technician at Raytheon and in the facilities department for the City of Newport. Mr. Francis was a song writer and talented musician. His greatest joy was the love of his family.He is survived by his children, Gwendolyn Ruggeri of Newport, RI and William S. Francis, Jr. of Norton, MA and a stepdaughter Beverly Maitland of Newport as well as seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, four great- great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was the step father of the late Maurice C. Welch and William C. Welch and the brother of the late Earl Baily, Gertrude McMahon, Harry Francis, Marion Grenier, Donald Francis and Walter Francis.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015, from 6-8pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015, at 11:00AM, in St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 2679 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in St. Pauls Churchyard, Portsmouth.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 1 St. Jude Place Building, P.O.
