William Vance Young, Sr

William V. Young, Sr., 59, of 50 Chapel Terrace, Newport, RI, died Saturday, February 3, 2007, at Newport Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 4, 1947 he was the son of Betty Piper Young of Newport and the late William J. Young.Mr. Young was the former owner of Broadway Shoe Repair in Newport before retiring. He was a US Marine Corp Vietnam veteran. He served 4 tours of duty in Vietnam and was a former prisoner of war. He was a member of the All Vets Club, the Strikezone Bowling League at Aquidneck Lanes and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.Besides his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Dawn M. Young, his son, William V. Young, Jr., his daughter, Dorothy A. Young, his son, James A. Young, all of Newport, his stepdaughter, Melissa Brant of Newport, his siblings, Kathy Malaxos of NY, Debbie Young of Seattle, WA, Carl Young of Newport, Greg Young of Seattle, WA, and Richard Young of California, eighteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was the brother of the late Steven and Vance Young.Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2007 from 10-11am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial with military honors will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
