Tiverton, RI - Bassett, William W. - William W Bassett of Tiverton RI, formerly of Mattapoisett, Vineyard Haven and Bridgewater MA., died on September 10th, after a courageous and stoic battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He passed at home, in his own bed with his wife and children surrounding him with love.Bill was the son of Brigham Bassett and Dorothy Bassett of Bridgewater, MA. He leaves, his loving wife Sharon Bassett and six children who adored him: Cynthia Poudrier and husband Brian Peterson of Phoenix, AZ., Kimberly Gesualdi and husband Joe Gesualdi of Cranston, RI., Mary Poudrier Tudan and husband Jonathan Tudan of Calabasas, CA., Stephanie Poudrier of Tiverton, RI., Douglas Bassett and wife Sara Bassett of Brattleboro, VT., Elisabeth Bassett of Brattleboro, VT, and his loyal four legged companions Meg and Jack.He also leaves his four incredible grandchildren: Angela Gesualdi, Maxim Poudrier-Tudan, Noah Peterson-Poudrier, and Daniel McCauley-Bassett.Bill was a graduate of St. Georges School in Middletown, RI and Colby College in Waterville, ME. He owned The William H Bassett Co., an automobile dealership in Brockton, MA, and with the assistance of his wife Sharon, they owned and operated Tight Lines. Inc., a sporting retail and mail order Company, and a large Antique Center.Bill grew up in Bridgewater, MA. He was the first Eagle Scout of Bridgewater. He was on the board of many organizations including, President of the Kiwanis Club of Brockton and Chairman of the Board for Brockton Hospital. He was Director, Trustee and Board Chairman of Bridgewater Savings Bank, and was board member of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. Most recently he was a Realtor with Coldwell Banker, The Guimond Realty Group in Tiverton, RI.Bills passion was sailing. He received his first sailboat at the age of nine. He enjoyed his cruising sailboats and in later years his model Solings. He loved golf and being with his wife, children and grandchildren.Bill was an accomplished athlete, he taught swimming, tennis and sailing as a young man. He played football in prep school and college. He also enjoyed watching boxing, playing chess with his grandchildren, listening to music and socializing with his wonderful friends.Bill was all of these things, but most importantly Bill was a gentle, loving and strong man.
