Middletown, - William W. Bennett, Jr., 78, of John Clarke Nursing Home Middletown, formerly of 48 Elm Street, Newport, died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at John Clarke Nursing Center Middletown, RI.He was the husband of the late Dorothy C. Stevens Bennett. Born in Newport, RI on July 22, 1924, he was the son of the late William W. and Marion Bennett.Mr. Bennett worked at J T OConnells of Middletown for 26 years retiring in 1994. He was a lifetime meber of the Middletown VFW #4487, the Weenat-Shassitt Tribe of Redmen of Newpirt, the teamsters union local #251 of Providence and the retired chapter of the teamsters union local #251. He also worked for the Newport Parking, Newport Yacthing Center, Moys Works, Manuel Brothers and Mayflower. He is survived by three sons William W. Bennett III of Newport, RI, Robin B. Bennett of Bristol, RI, and Walter C. Bennett of Newport, RI, his brother George Bennett of Newport, RI, six grandsons, four granddaughters, ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.He was the father of the late Helen M. Kuiee and the brother of the late Charlotte Coleman. His funeral will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2003, at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
