William James Nott (LCDR U.S.Navy Retired), 91, of Portsmouth RI, died Friday, April 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA. Born April 8, 1924 in New London, CT. He was the son of the late William Edward and the late Mildred (Harris) Nott. He was married to Marie (Santangelo) Nott for 61 years. William enlisted in the Navy after high school and served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Serving in the Navy for 26 years, he worked his way up through ranks and became a commissioned officer, also known as a "Mustang" and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a proud crewmember of the U.S.S Franklin (CV-13), during WWII. William was a member of the Franklin's "704"club. He earned the Bronze Star for valor during WWII.After retiring from the Navy, William went to work for Gilbane Construction, helping construct Roger Williams University. He became the Director of The Physical Plant department for the college, retiring after twenty years.He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, and loved spending time with his family and friends.He is survived by his wife, Marie (Santangelo) Nott, his four sons, Michael Nott and his wife Shanon of Portsmouth, RI, James Nott and his wife Linda of Portsmouth, RI, Paul Nott and his wife Kim of Savannah, GA, Thomas Nott of Portsmouth, RI, and his daughter Patricia Maggiacomo and her husband Michael. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Nott, Raymond Nott and Richard Nott, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his great granddaughter Jayla Hudson.A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday April18, 2015 from 1-2pm, with a Memorial service at 2pm in the Connors Funeral Home 55 West Main Road in Portsmouth, family and close friends are invited to attendBurial with military honors will be held immediately following in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue in Portsmouth.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Williams name to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
