Memorial Funeral Home is powered by the sun!

Did you know that Memorial Funeral Home has received a large portion of its power from the sun since 2019?

Since installing 75 solar panels, the funeral home has eliminated over 187,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. According to MFH’s Co-Owner and Funeral Director Kurt Edenbach, the building’s electricity bill has been halved and during the summer months, the electricity bill is often zero.

Doug Sebetti of Newport Solar headed up the installation process. Newport Solar is a family-owned and operated company that has been in the business for over a decade. They offer ground and roof-mounted panels, as well as high-performance battery systems and top-of-the-line EV chargers.

Solar panels produce stable electricity prices with the lowest per kilowatt per hour (kWh) price of any electricity source. Prices have also fallen drastically in the past decade and there are plenty of incentives on offer, especially with the recent passing of the Inflation Reduction Act. The implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act can reduce your federal tax liability by a total of 30% of their total solar installation costs. This tax break will remain in effect until 2032 and the legislation also includes a retroactive credit for anyone who installed solar in 2022.

According to Newport Solar’s website in 2020, Rhode Island residents paid National Grid about $0.21 per kWh while the average Newport Solar installation produced electricity at $0.07 per kWh.
